Disney has found itself in a pickle since the Don’t Say Gay bill was passed in Florida, and there has been an outcry from the LGBTQ+ employees of Pixar about Disney not taking a stance with the bill.
Variety reports that in a statement from the LGBTQ+ employees of Pixar, they’ve revealed that corporate Disney has been actively demanding cuts when it comes to “nearly every moment of overtly gay affection… regardless of when there is protest from both the creative teams and executive leadership at Pixar.”
This statement comes after a memo from Disney CEO Bob Chapek said that the ‘biggest impact’ that the company can make is creating more inclusive content. To which, the employees wrote that this statement was against what they have experienced with corporate Disney. They wrote:
“We at Pixar have personally witnessed beautiful stories, full of diverse characters, come back from Disney corporate reviews shaved down to crumbs of what they once were… Even if creating LGBTQIA+ content was the answer to fixing the discriminatory legislation in the world, we are being barred from creating it.”

If anything, Chapek did pledge $5 million to the Human Rights Campaign for LGBTQ+ after the ‘Don’t Say Gay bill was passed, but the organization said they would refuse the donation until ‘meaningful action is taken to combat’ the ruling.
For now, the company is being criticized for merely providing lip service to LGBTQ+ issues, and some have been calling for the resignation of Chapek. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Will Disney take action against the bill? Or Chapek continue to ‘please both sides’?
