Disney+ is set to premiere Robert Zemeckis’ Pinocchio this week, and though the puppet barely talks in the previews we got, we have a new clip of him talking to his conscience Jiminy Cricket.
Watch this:
While there are a lot of story elements that have always been prevalent in the Pinocchio tale, probably one of the more prominent characteristics of the boy puppet is that his nose grows whenever he lies; and that’s what we get to see in this clip where he lies to Jiminy about wanting to go to school and not enjoying the audience reactions.
I do have to say though; Joseph Gordon-Levitt is trying his best to emulate the voice of the original Jiminy from the animated movie. While I would have been more interested in an original take, I guess Disney is trying its best to expand the lore of the cartoon, and that would mean they would try to get as close to the source material as possible.
If you want a more unique take, you’ll just have to wait for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio which premieres on Netflix this December.
Academy Award® winner Robert Zemeckis directs this live action retelling of the beloved tale of a wooden puppet who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy. Tom Hanks stars as Geppetto, the wood carver who builds and treats Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) as if he were his own son. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Jiminy Cricket, who serves as Pinocchio’s guide as well as his “conscience”; Academy Award® nominee Cynthia Erivo is the Blue Fairy; Keegan-Michael Key is “Honest” John; Academy Award® nominee Lorraine Bracco is Sofia the Seagull, a new character, and Luke Evans is The Coachman. Also in the cast are Kyanne Lamaya as Fabiana and Jaquita Ta’Le as her marionette Sabina, Giuseppe Battiston as Stromboli and Lewin Lloyd as Lampwick.
Pinocchio premieres on Disney+ this Sept. 8.
