Pharrell Williams Voices Narrator in new Animated Dr. Seuss Film 'The Grinch'

Award-winning music artist Pharrell Williams joins Illumination and Universal Pictures for the upcoming animated movie The Grinch to play the role of the narrator, according to Deadline.

Pharrell Williams has worked with Illumination before, composing the score and original songs for the entire Despicable Me series. His song Happy for the first film was nominated for an Oscar back in 2013. The franchise was one of the company’s most successful movies, taking three of the eight top-grossing animated films of all time. It banked in 5.8 million dollars worldwide.

The company’s new rendition of the Dr. Seuss classic The Grinch has welcomed Grammy nominee Tyler, the Creator, who composed an original song entitled I Am The Grinch, which he will be performing in the film. Renowned Oscar-nominated composer Danny Elfman wrote the film’s score and collaborated with Tyler, the Creator to reinvent the classic version of You’re A Mean One.

The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as The Grinch. Angela Lansbury voices the Mayor of Whoville. The other main voices of the film include Rashida Jones, SNL’s Keenan Thompson, and Cameron Seely.

Illumination’s Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy are producing the film, along with Latifa Ouaou, Audrey Geisel and Chris Renaud as the executive producers. The film is directed by Scott Mosier and Yarrow Cheney. The new animated adaptation comes 18 years after Universal’s release of the live-action The Grinch, with Jim Carrey starring in the titular role.

The Grinch will be out on November 9, 2018.
