Patrick Stewart: Au revoir To Professor X

The X-Men movie Logan is going to be a lot sappier than people expect it to be. Regarded as one of the ‘darkest’ X-Men films thus far, it’s still about to break some fans’ heart. In fact, it has already started breaking some.

Apart from the reason that it’s got a young girl mutant (Dafne Keen) in the franchise (kids in action films usually equals mushy stuff), we are also about to witness a heartbreaking farewell from two of the men who have made this movie phenomenal.

Patrick Stewart retires as Professor X

Patrick Stewart, acting as the esteemed mentor Professor Charles Xavier, didn’t have thoughts for resigning from his role. In fact, he has said that he wasn’t ‘ready’ to leave the series just yet. But in a SiriusXM Town Hall, Patrick Stewart expressed that a very emotional film screening with co-actor Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold at the Berlin Film Festival changed his mind.

He says: “I realized there will never be a better, a more perfect, a more sensitive, emotional, and beautiful way of saying au revoir to Charles Xavier than this movie. So, I told [Hugh] that same evening, ‘I’m done too. It’s all over.’”

Before the 76-year-old English actor joined the X-Men franchise, he was reluctant. Thankfully, he was persuaded by Bryan Singer to play the role very similar to Star Trek’s Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Being a veteran fighter-turned-mentor appears to be Patrick’s typecast and mastered role.

Since the 1990’s, the praised actor has dedicated his gifted acting skills to the televised comic series X-Men. He says in another interview that the latest installment has done great and that it’s about time to wave goodbye.

Last for Logan

Even lead actor Hugh Jackman is about to take his final bow as the fierce wolverine. For eight movies across sixteen years, he has played the role exceptionally well. So well that he has greatly impressed fans and invited even more.

In this ninth film, fans can expect an even more exceptional performance from Hugh Jackman as superhuman Logan/Wolverine.
