Paper Girls: Amazon’s Incoming Show has Serious Stranger Things Vibes

Stranger Things is set to wrap up its fourth season this weekend, but it looks like Amazon Prime Video wants to jump in on that 80s nostalgia hype. Just in, we have a teaser for something called Paper Girls, and it feels eerily similar to Netflix’s hit show.
Watch this:
Here’s the official description:
It’s the day after Halloween in 1988 when four young friends accidentally stumble into an intense time war and find themselves inexplicably transported to the year 2019. When they come face-to-face with their adult selves, each girl discovers her own strengths as together they try to find a way back to the past while saving the world of the future.
The series is actually based on a comic from Cliff Chiang and Brian K. Vaughan which ran for 30 issues. Like Stranger Things, the series draws a lot of influence from ‘80s adventure movies, but seeing as how everyone is already making comparisons, maybe Paper Girls will try and go a different direction when it comes to its story.
Admittedly, Stranger Things has drawn inspiration from properties like Goonies, Jaws, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Terminator, but we have yet to have them take on a topic like time-travelling. Sure, there were some hints at time-distortion when Nancy realized that her home in the Upside Down was from years ago, but that could be something picked up in the next season and not in the upcoming finale.
Paper Girls premieres on Amazon Prime Video on July 29.
