Oscar Isaac: Moon Knight is an MCU Character Study that Hasn’t been Done Since Iron Man

Oscar Isaac has quite the filmography under his belt, and after Star Wars, you would think that he would be done with big franchises. He is coming back to the Disney fold with Marvel’s Moon Knight, and he explains that he thinks this series could be an interesting character study that hasn’t been done since 2008’s Iron Man.

Talking to Empire, Isaac shares, “[Moon Knight] felt ‘handmade’… And it’s the first legitimate Marvel character-study since Iron Man… I thought, ‘Maybe I can hijack this thing. Maybe this is the chance to do something really fucking nutty on a major stage.’”

Though Isaac may have played the dashing Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequels, he does have some more serious/crazy roles like the ones in Inside Llewyn Davis and Ex Machina. With the range that Isaac has shown onscreen, he’s the perfect choice to play someone with multiple personalities like Marc Spector.

I’ll admit, Moon Knight looks a lot like a standard “superhero that beats up bad guys” series, but I’m hoping that Marvel embraces the more interesting parts of the character.

The series follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.

Moon Knight premieres on Disney+ on March 30.
