Opposites Do Attract in New Trailer for Pixar’s Elemental

Lightyear may not have been the nostalgia hit that Pixar was expecting, but the studio is going to be delivering an original story with the upcoming Elemental set to release in June. We got our first teaser a few months back, but now we have a full trailer showcasing the romance between Ember (Leah Lewis) and Wade (Mamoudou Athie).

While earlier teasers have given us a glimpse at the world of Element City, this trailer really gives us a good look at the dynamic of all the people—especially the two leads Ember and Wade.

Though it’s not outright said in the trailer, it does look like Elemental is going to be a love story, and seeing as Pixar films are always littered with all kinds of social commentary, I think the movie is going to have interracial relationships at the very core of the movie.

If anything, I am kind of getting Zootopia vibes from the film, what with the special city, and the two main characters coming from different worlds (in Zootopia, it’s a relationship between a predator and prey). With Pixar behind the wheel though, we should expect a unique kind of story. Even Zootopia didn’t have scenes where Nick meets Judy’s parents; but maybe they’re saving that for a sequel—whenever that happens.
