Everyone is cautiously waiting for the first trailer for Netflix’s One Piece live-action series, but Luffy and the Straw Hats are set to make their live-action debut on ice.
Just in, we have our first look at Luffy from One Piece on Ice – Episode of Alabasta played by three-time Olympic medalist Shoma Uno. Check him out:

By the looks of it, the show will be following the Alabasta arc from the manga, which is one of the earlier arcs in the series. So far, Straw Hats roster during Alabasta includes Zoro, Sanji, Nami, Usopp, and Chopper. We’re also introduced to Nico Robin in this arc, but she isn’t a member of the Straw Hats yet.
I guess it’s also worth noting that one of the major antagonists in the Alabasta arc is Bentham/Mr. 2 Bon Kurei who is notorious for fondness of singing and dancing. He’s also a cross-dresser who wears ballet shows and make-up, and his outfit usually has some kind of swan on it—actually the perfect antagonist for an ice show.
We don’t know when we could get our first look at the show yet, but I am definitely interested in what it could look like. With Naruto finding a way to make a play out of the series, I wonder what kind of elaborate set pieces One Piece on Ice could feature.

The show is set to play from August 11–13 at KOSE Shin Yookahama Skater Center and September 2-3 at Aichi Dolphins Arena.
