Obi-Wan will have a Crisis of Faith in Kenobi Series

Luke Skywalker had lost his faith in the Jedi when we met him in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and it looks like his old mentor Ben will be going through the same thing when we meet him in Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, series writer Joby Harold explains how Obi-Wan will struggle in a world that has crumbled after the fall of the Republic. He says, “Within that hopeless fatalistic world, we find possibly the most famous of all our surviving Jedi in hiding struggling with that faith that defines the Jedi, and wanting to hold onto it and hoping to regain that faith within that sort of hopeless world.”
When we meet old Ben in A New Hope, he’s actually pretty sure of himself, openly embracing his fate after his clash with Vader. With the series following a defeated Obi-Wan after Revenge of the Sith, this series is expected to finally have Ben coming to terms with his loss and restoring his faith in the Force.
Going back to Vader though, the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan is said to be integral to this story. Harold continues, “Obi-Wan is defined by his past to a pretty great degree… I mean, Obi-Wan and Anakin share so much screen time together. They’re so close that everything that he’s experienced and everything that happened with Anakin cannot help but define him. And we meet a man who’s very much defined by that history, whether he wants to be or not.”
This all sounds pretty exciting for anyone who grew up with the Prequels, but I am hoping that this story doesn’t rely too much on fanservice and actually gives us a well-rounded story that even newcomers can enjoy. If anything, The Book of Boba Fett should serve as a cautionary tale, with that series almost forgetting about its main character toward the last few episodes to focus on another Mandalorian.
Hopefully director Deborah Chow won’t fall into the same trap.
Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney+ on May 27.
