At least two TV series are forced to halt production due to several wildfires currently raging in Southern California. HBO’s “Westworld” Season 2 decided to stop production for safety reasons. There is no indication, so far, that HBO will push back the Season 2 premiere date since it assured that filming will resume as soon as the fire is contained.
In a statement released by HBO, it said, “Due to nearby wildfires, ‘Westworld’ stopped production earlier today and will resume filming as soon as it’s safe to do so.” Despite the recent delay, it looks like “Westworld” is determined to finish all of its location shoots before the holiday break.
“So far, we’ve shot some from episode 1, episode 2, some from episode 4, some from episode 10. They’re [creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy] committed to having the scripts done to shoot so we’re done by Christmas,” actor Ed Harris told Collider. Harris played the Man in Black in the first season of the sci-fi series.
This is not the first time “Westworld” Season 2 has been delayed. The production was suspended earlier last month after show newcomer Zahn McClarnon suffered an injury at his home.
The first installment of the robopocalypse series wrapped up in December 2016. This means fans will have to wait for more than a year for the next season.
“S.W.A.T.” Halt Production Too
Shemar Moore’s new TV series, “S.W.A.T.”, has also announced that they temporarily stopped the filming of the procedural drama due to the wildfires in and around Los Angeles. The “S.W.A.T.” writers tweeted:
Production of @swatcbs has been suspended for the day due to wildfires and unsafe air near our stages. Safety of cast and crew come first. Prayers to all affected by these fires.

Both “Westworld” Season 2 and “S.W.A.T.” are currently filming in Santa Clarita area. “Westworld” has a set location in Santa Clarita, particularly for the main offices of Delos. “S.W.A.T.”, on the other hand, is filming at the Santa Clarita Studios in Valencia for its current season.
The Rye Fire in Newhall Ranch Road north of the San Fernando Valley affects the production of both shows. Two more fires are also scorching other areas in Southern California – the Thomas Fire in Ventura County and the Creek Fire in Los Angeles.
The three fires have burned about 70,000 acres and dozens of structures. Tens of thousands of affected residents have been evacuated and several highways were also closed. All of the three fires have not been contained as of writing.
“Westworld” Season 2 is scheduled to premiere in Spring 2018 on HBO. Meanwhile, “S.W.A.T.” is currently in its first season. It airs every Thursday on CBS.
