Nick Fury may have only appeared in Tony Stark’s funeral in Avengers: Endgame, but Samuel L. Jackson is set to return to the spotlight with Disney+’s Secret Invasion. The series is set to premiere in June, and we have a new trailer showcasing a huge alien conspiracy.
Check this out:
Here’s the series synopsis:
“In Marvel Studios’ new series ‘Secret Invasion,’ set in the present day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.”
We don’t exactly know why Nick Fury would be alone in this story, but this does bleed over from his Captain Marvel origin where he’s introduced to skrulls, and it’s revealed in Spider-Man: Far from Home that he’s been working with them closely on defending the Earth from other threats.
With She-Hulk starting the shake-up of the Marvel series formula, I’m kind of hoping that Secret Invasion becomes the Marvel’s version of Andor. Not everyone has to like it, but I would love if the MCU would start branching out to more complicated, mature stories. After the by-the-numbers film that was Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the MCU could sure use something more creatively driven and different.
Secret Invasion premieres on Disney+ on June 21.
