Netflix next drama 13 Reasons Why co-produced by Selena Gomez, has been released. The new drama is based on the best-selling novel written by Jay Asher of the same name. The plot focuses on 12 teenagers who learns why their classmate committed suicide through clues she left behind before taking her own life.
Selena Gomez will not appear on screen for 13 Reasons Why
Gomez will not be starring in the Netflix drama but she is attached to the project as an executive co-producer. Instead, the series will include rising stars Dylan Minnette, Katherine Langford, Brandon Flynn, Christian Navarro, Alisha Boe, Michelle Selene Ang, Justin Prentice and Devin Druid.
Dylan Minnette will play the protagonist Clay who tries to piece together why Hannah, played by Katherine Langford, committed suicide. His only clues are the tapes and the twelve other people in Hannah’s life. Despite not appearing in the series, Gomez considers it as her passion project.
In a Netflix panel last February 8, Gomez opens up on CNN up about the themes of suicide the series will tackle. She mentioned she relates to the issues some of the characters face and how she overcame her own struggles.
Joining the cast as well are Kate Walsh and Brian D’Arcy James as Hannah’s parents. Oscar-winning Spotlight director Tom McCarthy also directed a few episodes of the drama series.
