After HBO’s series about an apocalyptic world containing mushroom people, Netflix is set to return to their post-apocalypse, but this time with animal hybrid children.
Sweet Tooth Season 2 comes out later this month, and we have a new trailer teasing Gus and the sinister plots of the humans kidnapping hybrid children. Check this out:
The synopsis for Season 2 of Sweet Tooth reads:
“As a deadly new wave of the Sick bears down, Gus (Christian Convery) and a band of fellow hybrids are held prisoner by General Abbot (Neil Sandilands) and the Last Men. Looking to consolidate power by finding a cure, Abbot uses the children as fodder for the experiments of captive Dr. Aditya Singh (Adeel Akhtar), who’s racing to save his infected wife Rani (Aliza Vellani). To protect his friends, Gus agrees to help Dr. Singh, beginning a dark journey into his origins and his mother Birdie’s (Amy Seimetz) role in the events leading up to The Great Crumble.”
Though we’ve seen human-animal hybrids in fantasy media before, Sweet Tooth is kind of unique in that they are a kind of side effect to a world that’s going through an apocalypse. It’s also kind of telling that the show had started production in 2019, when the world shutdown the next year because of an IRL ‘Sick’ called COVID-19.
If anything, the world is definitely interesting, and I definitely want to know more about the origins of the hybrids as well as the Sick which lead to the fall of society in this world.
Sweet Tooth 2 premieres on Netflix on April 27.
