20th Century Fox had tried and failed to revive the Predator franchise back in 2018, and almost half a decade later, Hulu is going to try and do the same thing—but with a different twist this time.
Watch the trailer for Prey:
Here’s the official description:
The origin story of the Predator in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago. Naru, a skilled female warrior, fights to protect her tribe against one of the first highly-evolved Predators to land on Earth.
The film is being directed by Dan Trachtenberg who is probably best known for helming 10 Cloverfield Lane. He’s also directed episodes of Westworld, Black Mirror, and The Boys.
I have to say, this take is pretty unique for the franchise, especially with the speculation of some fans that the predators are able to time travel to fight warriors from different time periods. Though the we’ve seen predators take on the most elite warriors from modern times, it’s going to be interesting to watch them take on ancient Comanche—who were already very attuned with the environment. I wonder how long Dutch would have fared compared to them.
Admittedly, I am kind of bummed that this movie won’t be releasing in theaters, but maybe if it does well critically, 20th Century Studios could change their minds and give it a theatrical release. You have to admit, any Predator movie has to be enjoyed in a cinema.
Prey comes to Hulu on Aug. 5.
