New Trailer for George Miller’s Three Thousand Years of Longing Goes Absolutely Crazy

We may not know when exactly George Miller will go back to the world of Mad Max, but a new trailer has dropped for his next film called Three Thousand Years of Longing. Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton take center stage, and the preview looks absolutely crazy.

Watch this:

Here’s the synopsis:

Dr Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton) is an academic – content with life and a creature of reason. While in Istanbul attending a conference, she happens to encounter a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. This presents two problems. First, she doubts that he is real and second, because she is a scholar of story and mythology, she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. The Djinn pleads his case by telling her fantastical stories of his past. Eventually she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both.

The movie is actually based on a short story called The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eyes by author A.S. Byatt. While it does sound like an adult version of Aladdin with Arabian Nights, you can see that the visuals alone promise this is going to be one hell of an experience when you go to theaters.

With Mad Max earning as many accolades as it did, I have no doubt that Miller is once again going to be turning heads with this movie. The film looks absolutely bonkers, and I’m sure that Idris Elba will deliver as this mysterious, wish-fulfilling Djinn.

Catch Three Thousand Years of Longing when it comes to theaters Aug. 31.
