After their success with Encanto, Disney is set to tell the story of another extraordinary family with Strange World. The film is set to come out this November, and we just got a new trailer featuring the voices of Jake Gyllenhaal, Dennis Quaid, Jabouki Young-White, Lucy Liu, and more.
Watch this:
The official description reads:
The feature film introduces a legendary family of explorers, the Clades, as they attempt to navigate an uncharted, treacherous land alongside a motley crew that includes a mischievous blob, a three-legged dog and a slew of ravenous creatures. “Inspired by classic adventure stories,” said director Don Hall, “‘Strange World’ is an original animated adventure/comedy about three generations of the Clade family who overcome their differences while exploring a strange, wondrous and oftentimes hostile world.”
Like a lot of other recent Disney properties, we should expect some serious family dynamics to be explored here. After all, I think it’s relatable that the character of Searcher (Gyllenhaal) would find it troubling that his son (Young-White) would take wing under his own father (Quaid) who he seems to resent, despite his fame.
Though the premise does promise an out-of-this-world adventure, I think the family themes are pretty universal, and I’m sure this will be something for the entire family to enjoy. Then again, I’m hoping they find some kind of new twist to the Disney formula because fans are starting to notice the ‘family-trauma-is-the-real-villain’ pattern with all the recent films.
Strange World is set to hit theaters this Nov. 23.
