New Shazam! Fury of the Gods Trailer has Billy Battling All Kinds of Mythical Beasts

Black Adam may not have been able to be the smash hit that DC was expecting, but we’re set to get the sequel featuring Adam’s nemesis with Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The movie just dropped a new trailer, and it showcases all the mythical monsters that the daughters of Atlas have at heir disposal.

The synopsis for the movie may be pretty short and simple, but the trailer kind of reveals that the rest of the Shazam family will be losing their powers with Billy tasked to save them. On the way, he’ll be going up against dragons and all kinds of creatures; and we’ll expect him to be cracking wise like any adolescent boy with mommy issues.

With James Gunn and Peter Safran promising a reboot for the established DCEU, it’s pretty curious where Shazam! is going to fall in the slate. We know that ‘successful’ timelines like The Batman and Joker will continue, but other properties in the ‘Snyderverse’—like Wonder Woman and Aquaman could be completely redone with different actors.

As someone who has been a quiet backer of #RestoreTheSnyderVerse, I was honestly bummed that news came out that Gunn wasn’t pushing forward with actors like Henry Cavill, but it does offer an opportunity for more creativity down the line. Then again, we’ll have to wait and see if Gunn can actually implement his plan before we can make a solid stance on whether it was a right thing to go for the reboot.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is set to release in cinemas on March 17.
