This has been one good week for FOX’s “X-Men” franchise and fans. With the success the studio recently amassed with R-Rated films like “Deadpool” and “Logan” and the much-awaited “Deadpool 2,” they are is still up for something for the younger viewers. They are about to begin production for their 2018 release “New Mutants.” This new mutant film has a distinct YA vibe, as a couple of super-human youngsters begin to discover and learn how to use their gifts. This officially joins the huge “X-Men” universe that FOX is building, with “The Gifted” as the one similar to “New Mutants,” only for TV.
New Mutants Casts Actress For Wolfsbane and Magik
There has been a lot of rumors and speculations over who will be playing the young mutants, with Maisie Williams believed to be Wolfsbane and Anya-Taylor Joy as Magik. Nat Wolff also looks like he’s on the frontlines of being chosen as Cannonball, with the roles of Sunspot, Mirage and Warlock to be announced soon. However, The Hollywood Reporter has just confirmed that Williams and Taylor-Joy are officially on-board for the roles of Wolfsbane and Magik.
Wolfsbane and Magik: A Brief Backstory
Wolfsbane is Rahne Sinclair in real life. She is a scottish mutant, driven out of her home because of her werewolf-like abilities. She is then taken in by Moira McTaggert and brought to Professor X’s School for Gifted Youngsters. Magik, on the the other hand, is Illyana Rasputin, Colossus’ younger sister. She was trained to become a powerful sorceress. She can teleport between dimensions, and has since remained in the “X-Men” dimension.
The news comes as no surprise as the rumors pointing to Williams and Taylor-Joy carried heavy hints of them being cast eventually. FOX initially planned to announce the cast when pre-production for “New Mutants” start. This means that after this confirmation, we can expect more to be revealed in the coming weeks.
New Mutants is slated for an April 13, 2018 release.
