New Lightyear Trailer Goes to Infinity and Beyond

Pixar’s Turning Red is set to come out this March, but June will have someone more familiar coming back to the big screen with Lightyear. We have a new trailer that takes us to Infinity and Beyond, and we also have the reveal for the main cast besides Chris Evans.

The official description reveals that the cast also includes Keke Palmer, Dale Soules, and Taika Waititi as the group of cadets that go with Buzz on his adventure. Pixar fans will also recognize the voice of Buzz’s robot cat Sox as he’s played by Peter Sohn, who voiced Squishy in Monsters University. Other cast members include Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

Going back to the trailer though, there are a lot more references to the Buzz Lightyear toy that we meet in Toy Story. Besides the accurate suit which also comes with a laser pointer, we also have a look at ‘Emperor Zurg’. I’m curious if the film will follow through on the plot point that Zurg is Buzz’s father though.

As for how the film fits into the Toy Story canon, director Angus MacLane shares:

“In ‘Toy Story,’ there seemed to be this incredible backstory to him being a Space Ranger that’s only touched upon, and I always wanted to explore that world further. So my ‘Lighytear’ pitch was, ‘What was the movie that Andy saw that made him want a Buzz Lightyear toy?’ I wanted to see that movie. And now I’m lucky enough to get to make it.”

Lightyear is set to hit theaters on June 17. Hopefully by that time the pandemic situation is better, seeing that Turning Red had to release exclusively on Disney+.
