New CBS action-thriller Intelligence finally kicks off with special preview Tuesday, Jan. 7, before settling in to a regular time-slot on Mondays at 10 pm, from January 13.
The series stars Josh Holloway (Lost) and Meghan Ory (Once Upon a Time) who, let’s face it, are worth tuning in to the pilot episode based on their looks alone.
Gabriel (Holloway) is a capable intelligence operative with ‘enhanced abilities’ that come via a high-tech microchip in his brain that allows him to control virtually any electronic device with a heartbeat within his radius. Security lock on that door? No problem. Hacking a super computer? Easy. Uploading a new language? A breeze. Interpersonal dynamics? Not so much.
Although Holloway’s trademark cheeky charm may rub off on audiences (we’re sure CBS is banking on it), Gabriel tends to rub his colleagues up the wrong way, from his boss Director Lillian Strand (Marg Helgenberger), leader of the elite government cyber-security agency created to support him, to Riley Neal, the Secret Service agent, she assigns to protect Gabriel from outside threats, as well as from his appetite for ‘reckless, unpredictable behavior and disregard for protocol.’
While Intelligence practically shouts odd-couple buddy cop/investigative duo drama (in the vein of Castle and Bones, and this year’s Sleepy Hollow and Almost Human) we suspect the series will stand or fall based on how much justice is done to that future-tech storyline going forward.
We’ll be watching the pilot (loglines for the episode follow below) with interest to see just how believably that premise is put across. Hey, if it worked for Sleepy Hollow …
A short episode synopsis and new additional images from the pilot episode follow below. Just so you know, oversized sweaters are a thing now.
“Pilot” – Gabriel and Riley must rescue the kidnapped member of CyberCom who invented the chip implanted in Gabriel’s brain before the top-secret technology falls into the wrong hands. Meanwhile, Gabriel takes advantage of his chip to search for his wife who disappeared years ago, on the special series premiere of INTELLIGENCE, Tuesday, Jan. 7 (9:00-10:01 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. It will move to its regular Monday (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) time period on Jan. 13.
