New Featurette for The Little Mermaid Gives Better Look at Ursula and More

If superhero films like Guardians of the Galaxy isn’t really your thing, Disney has another blockbuster coming out this May with the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. A new featurette has been dropped for the film, and it gives us a better look at the songs and more of Melissa McCarthy’s Ursula.
Check this out:
We know that Lin-Manuel Miranda was brought in to write some new songs for the movie, but the featurette didn’t really tease any of them. Even if Disney did bring in Miranda, they also attached the composer of the original movie, Alan Menken.
Going back to Ursula though, a lot of people really wanted to have a drag queen playing the character since Ursula was infamously inspired by drag icon Divine, but I’m sure McCarthy can pull of the role; I’m just hoping she comes at it feistier as compared to her signature slapstick comedy.
Here’s the synopsis:
“The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
The Little Mermaid live-action is set to hit theaters on May 26.
