Newest Aquaman Set Photo Reveals Mera On The Run From Atlantean Pursuers

“Aquaman” fans have constantly been getting fresh updates on the movie online. Thanks to a steady flow of leaked set photos and videos, we now know that the next DC Extended Universe is going smoothly in time for its 2018 release. Now, the newest leaked image comes in the form of Mera (Amber Heard) seemingly fleeing from her (presumably) Atlantean pursuers.

“Aquaman” is the first DCEU film of 2018, after this year’s “Wonder Woman” “Justice League” on November. It’s set to be directed by “The Conjuring” director James Wan.

The unofficial set photo leaks on “Aquaman” continue today on Reddit, as the Australia-based movie is currently shooting the film. The blurry photo features Mera—who actually has a large role in the film—running across a rooftop from her pursuers, presumed to be Atlantean soldiers. Check out the image below:

The context of this photo is unclear, as nothing is known about the events leading up to this scene. However, this image of Mera running away from the Atlantean soldiers does hint at the previous rumors about the entire premise of “Aquaman.” Maybe this photo echoes a scene in which Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) goes head to head with his half brother, Orm/Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson). During the San Diego Comic-Con, Momoa revealed that Ocean Master will indeed be the film’s villain.

In the comics, the sibling rivalry between Arthur and Orm goes back a long way. He has been a frequent villain for “Aquaman” as they have engaged in numerous wars for the battle of the throne of Atlantis. Considering this, it seems very logical to assume that the Atlanteans pursuing Mera are somehow involved in a traitorous mission from Orm as a way for him to steal the throne from Arthur. Judging by the image above, it looks like Arthur won’t be the only one on the run once Orm orchestrates his coup against him. But then again, we’ll never really know if this is how the story will flesh out until we finally see “Aquaman” next year.

“Aquaman” hits theaters on December 21, 2018.
