After the blunder that was M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender, there has been a lot of pressure for Netflix after they announced that they would be attempting another live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. We’ve barely gotten any updates, but word has it that Netflix is going all out with the series.
As per AvatarNews, the series allegedly has a budget of more than a hundred million with ‘a price tag of $15 million per episode’. With the first season expected to give us 8 episodes, the budget is currently estimated to be at $120 million.
For comparison, Disney+’s The Mandalorian had a budget of $100 million and the final season of Game of Thrones had a budget of $90 million. Though the numbers are really high when it comes to this Avatar series, it still doesn’t hold a candle to Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power which is said to have a budget of upwards of $400 million for the first season alone.
We don’t really know what this series is going to look like, but the odds are currently against the streaming giant. Besides the hefty CG that elemental bending will demand, fans are also aware of the falling out with original ATLA creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino.
Despite these troubles, the series has every right to blow us off our feet. We’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out.
No release date has been set for Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender.
