Streaming giant Netflix announced Thursday that Daniel Radcliffe, popularly known as Harry Potter, will be joining the cast of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The sitcom was originally set for a 13-episode first season on NBC for early 2015 until the show was sold to Netflix.
In May this year, it was reported that Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will return for an interactive special (like that of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch) set to star Daniel Radcliffe among others. The special is set to premiere in 2020. Series creator and executive producer Tina Fery tweeted out, “We’re thrilled to announce that we’re about to start production on an all-new interactive Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt special”. Fey added her joy on the prospect of the first ever interactive comedy special on Netflix. This will allow viewers to make choices on behalf of the characters with different story paths and different jokes.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: The Story So Far
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt stars Ellie Kemper as she adjusts to life in New York City after her rescue from a doomsday cult. In the fictional town of Indiana, she and three other women were held by a Reverend for 15 years in an underground bunker of the said cult. Kimmy finally decides not to play the victim and have a positive attitude by moving to New York. It is here where she meets and becomes friends with her street-wise landlady Lillian (Carol Kane) and her roommate Titus (Tituss Burgess) who wants to be an actor; Kimmy also lands a job being a nanny for an out-of-touch socialite Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski).
Since its debut in 2015, the show has had four seasons and garnered positive reception from critics and fans alike. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show has a 100 percent rating on two seasons with a 97 percent rating overall. Over its four-season run, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was unable to win any awards but managed to earn 18 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including for best comedy series.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Interactive Special Plot
Radcliffe’s role in the upcoming special has yet to be disclosed but Netflix did give us a little synopsis as to what we should expect. Netflix stated that the interactive special will follow Kimmy Schmidt on her biggest adventure yet, spanning across three states and plenty of explosions.
Netflix had this to say in a press release, “In the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt interactive special, Kimmy Schmidt sets off on her biggest adventure yet. Three states! Explosions! A dancing hamburger! And you, the viewer, get to decide how the story goes. Will you foil the Reverend’s (Jon Hamm) evil plan and get Kimmy to her wedding on time? Or will you accidentally start a war against the robots?”
Earlier this year, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt dropped its final season on Netflix. But it isn’t the show’s final goodbye, taking a page from the success of Bandersnatch, audiences will get the opportunity to experience one story or several, depending on the choices you make.
Netflix announced the interactive special will feature regular cast members such as Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski, Carol Kane and of course Kimmy herself, Ellie Kemper. New cast members will feature the likes of Daniel Radcliffe.
The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt interactive special is set to be released in 2020.
