After creating a huge buzz on social media with the hashtags #RenewSense8 and #BringBackSense8, fans of Netflix’s “Sense8” will remain disappointed as the streaming service confirms that the show will not come back despite the fan petition. “Sense8” was cancelled early this month, much to many fans’ outrage.
“Sense8” was created by the iconic Wachowski siblings and J. Michael Straczynski and follows a diverse cast of multi-ethnic characters connected mentally and emotionally to their specific “cluster” known as sensates.
Fans Call To Arms For Sense8 Renewal
“Sense8” spanned a total of two seasons and one Christmas special on Netflix. Early this month, there were rumors that the show was nearing cancellation. It turned out to be true, as the entire cast confirmed it themselves via Twitter. However, fans of “Sense8” were quick to respond through a series of petitions meant for Netflix to revive the show for a third season, or at least to give the story some closure.
Unfortunately, it appears that the fans’ combined effort were all for nothing.
Netflix Offers Heartlfelt Condolences To Sense8 Fans
Netflix posted on its official Tumblr profile a statement that made clear its decision to cancel the show following the premiere of season 2. The streaming service offered up a heartfelt letter to fans. It turns out that even the Netflix crew are deeply heartbroken just like all the fans around the world. The statement read:
“To our Sense8 family… We’ve seen the petitions. We’ve read the messages. We know you want to #RenewSense8, and we wish we could #BringBackSense8 for you. The reason we’ve taken so long to get back to you is because we’ve thought long and hard here at Netflix to try to make it work but unfortunately we can’t. Thank you for watching and hope you’ll stay close with your cluster around the world. #SensatesForever”
It’s touching to know that everyone involved in the production loved the show as much as the viewers did. The cast even went as far as expressing their strong intentions of returning for a third season.
“Sense8” may be gone, but fans can at least rest assured that all the episodes will still be there for them forever.
