We may have seen some truly horrific sea monsters in Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots, but they’re going to give us some more family-friendly leviathans with their upcoming film, The Sea Beast. Just in, we have a new trailer, and looks like a fantastic adventure.
Check this out:
Here’s the official description:
In an era when terrifying beasts roamed the seas, monster hunters were celebrated heroes – and none were more beloved than the great Jacob Holland. But when young Maisie Brumble stows away on his fabled ship, he’s saddled with an unexpected ally. Together they embark on an epic journey into uncharted waters and make history.
The film has a star-studded cast which includes the likes of Karl Urban (The Boys, Star Trek), Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey), and Jared Harris (Chernobyl, Mad Men). The lead part of Maisie is played by Zaris-Angel Hator.
While the notion of fighting giant undersea leviathans can border on Lovecraftian horror, I think The Sea Beast gives it a nice colourful filter that should make the film a fun watch for kids. Not to mention, the creature designs have a huge range from adorable to fierce—kind of variety of dragons that we got from the How to Train Your Dragon films.
We may not be getting any Pirates of the Caribbean films soon, but this should be a wild ride for anyone looking for some open water swash-buckling.
Catch The Sea Beast when it premieres on Netflix on July 8. You can catch the movie earlier though, when it hits select theaters this month.
