Netflix Pranks NYC with Thing from Wednesday

Netflix’s Wednesday has managed to earn a massive audience when it launched recently, but the promotion for the series doesn’t stop there. For some fun Guerrilla marketing, Netflix had decided to prank New Yorkers with an animatronic of Thing walking around the city, and we have some clips of people reacting to a severed hand walking around NYC.
Check it out:
In the series, they actually had Victor Dorobantu wear a CG suit while he did his performance as Thing, but since they can’t CG him out of a prank, it looks like they got an animatronic hand to walk around the city and surprise people. They didn’t just stop with him walking around either, they also had Thing hanging from railings and riding skateboards, playing with different people.
So far, the series is off to a strong start, and Netflix is reporting that Wednesday has broken the record for most hours viewed in a week (at 341.2 million hours)—even beating out flagship series Stranger Things.
We don’t know how long Wednesday plans to run, but it’s certainly a fun re-introduction into the world and humor of The Addams Family. Who knows, maybe we can get a spinoff film featuring the whole family down the line.
WEDNESDAY — starring Jenna Ortega in the title role, alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Gwendoline Christie, Christina Ricci and more — is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Snap snap.
Catch Wednesday now streaming on Netflix.
