'Narcos' Season 4 Casts New Series Stars Diego Luna and Michael Peña

The drug cartels better run and hide because a new dawn is coming to “Narcos” Season 4. Following the recent change of location from Colombia to Mexico, the show has just cast its newest lead stars—”Rogue One’s” Diego Luna and “American Hustle’s” Michael Peña, as confirmed by Variety. Pedro Pascal, the series’ original lead star for three seasons, won’t be returning for season 4.
“Narcos” followed the story of Pablo Escobar and the Medellin cartel in its first two seasons, with Pascal and Boyd Holbrook playing real-life DEA agents responsible for Escobar’s apparent death—Javier Peña and Steve Murphy respectively. After Escobar’s death, the show then focused on the low-key Cali Cartel, under the leadership of brothers Gilberto Rodriguez Orejuela (Damián Alcázar) and Miguel Rodríguez Orejuela (Francisco Denis). They were eventually captured, with Javier Peña finally hanging his hat.

Production on “Narcos” Season 4 recently began in Mexico, with the show set to follow the Guadalajara cartel, the first Mexican cartel to have worked with the Colombian cartels and led by the notorious Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. Earlier this year, Carlos Muñoz Portal, a location scout for the show, was shot in his car, close to the border of Mexican state Hidalgo. Meanwhile, a teaser for “Narcos” Season 4 also hit online.

As for Luna, the actor recently appeared in 2016’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” as Cassian Andor, a Rebel Alliance intelligence officer responsible for stealing the Death Star plans. Luna also starred in the critically-acclaimed film “Y Tu Mama Tambien.” His directorial movie, “Mr. Pig” premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and starred Danny Glover and Maya Rudolph. Luna is set to appear in “Rainy Day in New York,” directed by Woody Allen and “Berlin, I Love You.”
Peña, on the other hand, appeared in 2015’s Marvel Cinematic Universe entry “Ant-Man,” Ridley Scott’s “The Martian,” and David O. Russell’s “American Hustle.” Peña is set to star in the “Ant-Man and the Wasp” sequel as well as Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time.”
“Narcos” is set to hit Netflix sometime in 2018.
