My Hero Academia Season 1 Episode 3 Recap - Roaring Muscles

Symbol of Peace

All Might is the world’s number one hero and is considered the Symbol of Peace. Soon after his first appearance, villain attacks drastically decreased, making a massive difference in people’s lives.

All Might tells Midoriya that he has what it takes to become a Hero, words that he has wanted to hear since he was a child. As Midoriya cries, All Might invites him to be the inheritor of his power.

The truth about All Might’s quirk is that it has been passed on to him like a sacred torch by those who came before. Midoriya remembers All Might’s quirk as one of the Seven Wonders of the world on the internet, but it doesn’t make sense to him how someone can pass on a quirk.

All Might explains that his ability, One For All, is a power that can be passed down to others, and a power that finds its wielders during the time of need. The old man has been looking for a successor all this time, and after seeing Midoriya’s deed, he thinks the boy could be a worthy candidate.

Midoriya feels the burden of learning his secrets, and after wiping away his tears, he agrees to take on the mantle.

Training

Receiving this power, however, would not be an easy feat. Two days later, All Might gives Midoriya an intense training program to strengthen his boy. He wouldn’t be able to accept the quirk at his current physical level, as it combines the inherited power from past wielders.

All Might gives him a training plan that involves cleaning up junk at the beach so he can pass the intense UA entrance exam. And so his ten months of hell begins. He has to wake up every morning to train, then go back to school and train again until night.

One day, in the middle of training, Midoriya falls from exhaustion. All Might figures out that the boy is overdoing it. Merely passing isn’t enough for Midoriya; he wants to outwork the others to be like All Might. The greatest hero who saves people with a smile. All Might scolds him at first, but after seeing the boy’s determination, he resolves to adjust his training regimen to meet his goals.

On the morning of the exam, All Might finds Midoriya on top of a pile of junk, shouting to the world. He’s finally cleared the whole beach, even beyond what All Might initially plan. The hero catches Midoriya as he falls from exhaustion, smiling at his victory.

All Might shows Midoriya a picture from ten months ago to show him how far he’s gone. At his current physical level, he’s worthy to receive the quirk. Midoriya cries at how privileged and lucky he has it.

Entrance to UA

The hero assures him that he’s earned his success and hands him a strand of hair to eat. This confuses Midoriya, who soon learns that ingesting All Might’s DNA will pass on the quirk to him.

Midoriya goes to UA that day for the entrance exams, with no time to test out whether the transfer of quirks worked. Bakugo finds him and tells him to step away. Midoriya then remembers that the other boy hasn’t been bullying him since they encountered the villain.

He almost trips due to nervousness, but a girl comes over to stop him from falling using her quirk. She sympathizes with his nerves and tells him good luck.

Orientation starts with Present Mic explaining the rules of the first test. Students will be separated into different scenarios to defeat mock villains using quirks.

Our Thoughts

Progress has been fast but very satisfying so far. 3.8/5.
