It’s no mystery that even the most central figures in Marvel aren’t up-to-date with the world’s canon like the fans are, but Brie Larson does have one card up her sleeve—Ms. Marvel’s Iman Vellani.
Talking to IMDb, Larson explains how her Marvels co-star has helped her catch up to MCU lore. Larson explains:
“Well, first of all, I learned how old Carol Danvers is. I didn’t think about it, didn’t pay much attention to it. And she teaches me, basically everything I know about Marvel is through her. She has immense, immense knowledge.”
It’s no mystery that Vellani has been very religious with her Marvel lore, and has even joked about getting into fights with studio head Kevin Feige about the canon. Despite Vellani’s know-how, Larson does say it’s great to work with someone who is new to the blockbuster process. She continues:
“And it’s also just nice to have someone come in who is just so excited by the process… Because even though what we’re doing is incredible, it’s wild, it’s like you’re at Disneyland everyday with these sets. So to have someone reminding you that this is really cool…is really cool.”
I’ll admit, it’s going to be great watching Captain Marvel actually interact with some other characters. With most of her co-stars in her first movie being gone or retired, it’s going to be fun watching her try to lead a team of other, younger heroes who have powers close to her skillset.
The Marvels starring both Larson and Vellani comes to theaters on July 28, 2023. In the meantime, you can check out Ms. Marvel which has its complete first season now streaming on Disney+.
