Mjolnir Returns in New Clip from Thor: Love and Thunder

June is here, which means that Thor: Love and Thunder is just a month away, and while the trailers we’ve gotten have been pretty fun, we have a new clip from the film which has Thor briefly reunited with his magic hammer, Mjolnir.

It’s just a short clip, but I think it pretty much establishes Thor’s hang-up over losing Mjolnir, and the shock of watching someone else wield it. I think it’s a silly throwaway joke, but you’ll notice the clip actually starts with Thor whistling at Mjolnir to come back like a dog.

Personally, I’m more of a fan of the ‘Shakespeare in the Park’ Thor era, but there is something to love about Waititi’s take on the character as well. I’m just hoping that Love and Thunder has Waititi’s more grounded moments from his indie projects as compared to Ragnarok which seemed to lack the seriousness that Waititi’s other projects usually have.  

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a search for self-discovery. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters on July 8.
