Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Featurette has Tom Cruise Prepping for ‘The Biggest Stunt in Cinema History’

One major hook of the Mission: Impossible films is that each movie always has Tom Cruise attempting a crazy stunt, from him hanging off the side of a plane to him scaling the tallest building in the world. The upcoming M:I movie, Dead Reckoning, has Cruise attempting ‘the biggest stunt in cinema history,’ and we have a new behind-the-scenes look at Cruise preparing to jump off a cliff.

Watch this:

The stunt basically has Cruise speeding off a cliff and jumping off the motorcycle to free fall for a few seconds, then open a parachute. We don’t know what the context of the stunt is in the movie, but just watching the footage, you’ll find yourself holding your breath waiting for Cruise’s chute to open.

Essentially, they’ve shot the scene in a way that there’s no way you can’t tell that it’s Cruise making the jump; and you really have to admire the dedication and training it took for Cruise to pull the stunt off, from sky diving training to motocross sessions.

For now, we’re looking at the last legs of the Mission: Impossible franchise, and Cruise and his team are hard at work to make it the most action-packed film in the series. At 60-years-old, you have to commend Cruise still going at it for so long. Hopefully they manage to close the films off with a bang.

Catch Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One when it hits theaters on July 14, 2023.
