The “Mission Impossible” franchise was originally launched in 1996 with positive critical and box office performance, with two sequels following the initial “Mission Impossible” film. In 2011, director Brad Bird took over the franchise for a fourth installment, “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.” The franchise regained momentum and got positive reviews and earned a lot on the box office. McQuarrie helmed the fifth installment, “Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation,” in 2015 and proved to be a worthy follow-up to 2011’s MI:5 film.
Mission Impossible 6 Gears Up For Production
Production for the latest entry in the Tom Cruise-led franchise, “Mission Impossible 6” has finally begun. Returning director Christopher McQuarrie and cinematographer Rob Hardy took to Instagram to confirm the news (see posts below.) McQuarrie and Cruise are now returning for the sixth film in the “Mission Impossible” series, which has just begun filming on April 8, according to the pair of photos posted.
McQuarrie posted a shot of the film’s clapperboard with the title “MI: 6” clearly visible. Hardy also posted his own image of the clapperboard on his Instagram. Both pictures had the phrase, “Light the fuse” on the description.
The photos were posted after Cruise headed to Paris for the pre-production on “Mission Impossible 6.” Cruise will be joined again by the original cast: Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson. Jeremy Renner was confirmed by ScreenRant as out of the film, given his role in “Avengers: Infinity War.” Newcomers to the latest film include Henry Cavill (Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice), Vanessa Kirby (The Crown) and Sian Brooke (Sherlock).
Production for the film kicks off in France, but it was also confirmed by Paramount that London, India and New Zealand are among the other places where shooting will take place. As of now, these are the only details that we’re learning about the film, very few information has been given, and it’s only a matter of time before photos will be released. And with McQuarrie returning to helm the film, we can be sure that this can be as explosive as the M.I. series has always been known to be.
“Mission Impossible 6” hits theaters on July 27, 2018. Check out the Instagram photos below:
