Million Yen Women Season 1 Episode 9 Recap – Ready

The scene starts with young Minami running up the stairs and straight into her room. She closes the door, sits on the bed, and hides under the blanket. She breathes heavily, looking so scared. She covers her mouth with her hand so that no sound is heard. A man opens the door and aggressively removes the blanket from Minami. Young Minami shakes her head as the man smiles down at her. Tears drop from Minami’s eyes as the man slowly unbuttons her clothes.

Shin leaves early to retrieve his father’s ashes after his death sentence was carried out. Over breakfast, Hitomi expresses his worries that someone might die again. Minami assures her she’ll take care of everything. 

Mr. Sakurai asks Shin to go out with him. On their way, Mr. Sakurai points to Shin the billboard announcing that Shin’s novel has sold one million copies. While they have dinner, Mr. Sakurai asks Shin to write his next novel while there is still momentum from his first book.

Ms. Miura tells Yuzu Hanaki they will print a million more copies of his book. Yuzu and Mr. Moriguchi are happy until they hear that Yuzu’s novel is only number two in sales.

One night, Minami arrives and sees Shin struggling to write his next novel. Minami admits to Shin that the kiss they shared was her first kiss. She also said that she had only slept with one person all her life — her own father. She tells Shin that once things get better, she will ask Shin to sleep with her.

The ladies ask Shin to have dinner with them outside to show their gratitude for everything Shin has done for them. Minami helps Midori with her makeup and reminds her that she shouldn’t think she can do everything alone.

On his way out, Shin asks Minami how Nanaka’s murderer managed to get in. Minami tells him the door was locked when she arrived that day. She says the murderer must have had a copy of the key, or someone opened the door for him. Shin asks Minami if she’s not going. Minami says the important guests arrive last.

Yuki, Hitomi, Midori, and Shin eat dinner outside without Minami. Back at Shin’s house, three men bind Minami to a chair. They pour gasoline inside the house. One man shows Minami a letter: “I wish you happiness.” The man sets the paper on fire before he drops it to the floor.

Minami closes her eyes as fire spreads inside the house, burning everything it touches.

Our Thoughts

We are guessing that Minami finally found out who the real killer is, so they decided to kill her. It is also very disappointing that the strongest character in the show died. It would have been nice if Sunako had been there to protect Minami. She looked so helpless, bound in the chair, and could not even ask any questions to the three men who burned the house. But Minami, being herself, didn’t show any signs of sadness while the men bound her to the chair. We are guessing there is no way for her to escape. The others were having dinner outside when this happened.

The reporters are still trying to get an interview from Shin. Shin’s work gets the attention it needs whenever someone dies. First, when Nanaka died, then his father next. Is there any other secret surrounding this novelist? What will happen to the other three ladies? Will someone die again? Will Shin’s book sell more copies after what happened to Minami?
