Honesty is great! But, maybe not for everyone in A Million Little Things. After that dramatic midseason finale, the show is back with more complicated relationships, sweet kids, and the usual bout of drama. And finally, we’re addressing one of the most-anticipated storylines of the season – the revelation of Delilah (Stephanie Szostak) and Eddie’s (David Giuntoli) affair to the kids.
It has always been one big elephant in the room since season 1. And admittedly, A Million Little Things really dragged this out. There were times when it could’ve done the show so much better to reveal it earlier on. But, I’m just happy it’s here. Now, things are getting a little more interesting in the immediate friend group. Here’s everything that happened in A Million Little Things after Delilah and Eddie’s reveal.
Aftermath Part 1
This episode picks up three months after the events of the last episode. Sophie (Lizzy Greene) still couldn’t forgive her mom and is now doing everything she can to avoid being in the same room as her. Danny (Chance Hurstfield), on the other hand, is more forgiving. However, that doesn’t mean he’s safe from the mother-daughter feud. On the opening day of their Grease school play, Sophie tells him that she won’t be going. Although Delilah’s adamant on it, Sophie seems to have set her mind on it.
In the Seville household, Eddie and Katherine (Grace Park) are doing better than ever. They’re patching up their marriage. And they’re getting to spend more time with baby Charlie. That same day, however, they receive a package from Eddie’s estranged sister Lizzie. This is a huge surprise because first of all, new character in A Million Little Things everybody! But, apparently, she’s the one who got Eddie into alcohol and she’s an alcoholic herself. That’s why he’s been staying away from her. She never even met Theo (Tristan Byon). But Eddie sent her the birth announcement. And now, she’s reaching out. So, even if Katherine and Eddie aren’t sure whether to let her back into their lives, they do have to tell Theo the truth.
Aftermath Part 2
On the other hand, Gary (James Roday) has spiraled back into old habits since his breakup with Maggie (Allison Miller). In addition to sleeping with a different woman every night, he’s also quite angry. Meanwhile, Maggie has been trying to move on herself. And in the process, she has grown closer to Eric (Jason Ritter). It’s obvious that there’s something between them. But, they’re both trying to evade it. In an effort to get herself back out there, Maggie allows Eric to help her set up a profile on a dating app. When she sees Gary’s face on there though, she immediately slams her phone down.
Meanwhile, Regina (Christina Moses) and Rome (Romany Malco) are finally registering for adoption. The social worker’s inspection of their home goes well. However, when she mentions their medical records, there’s a hitch. Apparently, Regina filled it out for both of them. And she didn’t include Rome’s depression. Although Regina tries to play it off casually, it bothers Rome to no end.
Dilemmas and a Million Little Things
Later on, Rome checks in with his psychiatrist Dr. Heller (Jeff Joseph). At first, he blames his frustrations on society’s stigma against mental illness. He thinks that his condition could affect his and Regina’s chances of adopting. However, as Dr. Heller makes him realize, that’s not really what threw him off. As this settles in, Rome admits that that stigma mattered to him then because it mattered to Regina. “I always knew what society thought,” he said. “But I just never realized that Gina felt that way too.”
On the other side of town, Regina’s at the restaurant with Delilah by her side. This time though, they have Sophie helping too so she could replace Eddie’s guitars that she broke. As she enters the kitchen, Delilah tries to talk to her again. But, Sophie doesn’t want to hear it. Even when Delilah grounds her and takes away her car, Sophie remains unfazed.
Stepping in, Regina tries to talk Sophie into going to Danny’s school play. And as it turns out, it wasn’t Delilah that was the problem. It was more of Eddie. Knowing he’d be there, Sophie didn’t want to see him and her mom together.
School Traps
Elsewhere on this episode of A Million Little Things, Danny’s also going through some emotional issues in regard to Elliot (Bodhi Sabongui). In the play, Danny’s going to kiss the lead female star. Elliot is also going to kiss another girl. But unlike Elliot, Danny doesn’t seem to have confidence in his kissing scene.
Later on, Danny catches Gary making out with his social studies teacher in an empty classroom. Gary was supposed to be helping paint the sets. But, there he was. And Danny doesn’t even try to hide he’s upset. Like everybody else, he noticed how strange Gary has been acting in the past few months. But in the true number one uncle of A Million Little Things fashion, Gary immediately zeroes in on the real issue – Danny’s first kiss. True enough, Danny wishes it was something more meaningful. He wants it to be with someone he cares about. But, also, Danny wants it to be meaningful in relation to the people he cares about.
First Kiss
Later that night, it seems that Danny’s worries were for nothing. Regina manages to get Sophie to come. But, once Sophie sees her mom, Charlie, and Eddie in the lobby, she beelines towards the theatre without even a hello. Much like her, when Gary sees Maggie enter the lobby, he freezes up. Then, he proceeds to rush to the food and drinks section.
As the rest of the group heads in, Rome pulls Regina aside. Then, he asks her upfront if she thinks his depression makes him less qualified to be a father. Regina immediately denies it. But, Rome admits that he can’t bear his first act as a father to be a lie.
Inside, Gary finds Sophie in his seat because she didn’t want to sit with her mom. At first, Gary was willing to make the switch. But, when he sees that Sophie’s supposed seat is wedged between Delilah and Maggie, he immediately demands a switchback. Sadly, what’s done is done. So, he sits his ass beside Maggie.
A few songs later, in Sandy’s solo part, Danny couldn’t hold his emotions any longer. So, he confronts Elliot and tells the boy that he hurt him. Danny starts explaining but, just as he’s getting to the part of his first kiss, Elliot suddenly grabs him by the shoulders and kisses him.
Always Be Together Not
In the break, Maggie plucks the courage to finally talk to Gary. She has also noticed that something’s wrong with him. But, instead of having a decent conversation, Gary throws Eric in Maggie’s face again. Fed up, Maggie admits that Eric was the first person she called after their breakup. But, this is only because she didn’t want to tell their mutual friends yet and she was hoping Gary would still change his mind. Now, she doesn’t feel that way.
Back inside, Danny successfully finishes his play with a spectacular kiss. And backstage, everyone was just overflowing with pride. When Delilah joins the crowd, however, Sophie immediately jumps out. Fed up with her daughter’s behavior, Delilah chases after her. And as their argument escalates, Sophie blames her mother for her father’s death. But, Delilah puts her foot down and refuses to be blamed for it. In the end, Sophie refuses to go home.
Instead, Sophie stays the night with Rome and Regine. While she’s preparing herself for bed, Regina sits down with Rome for a talk. She admits that she’s still worried about Rome and fears the times when he hits his low points. But, she’s also very proud of how far he’d come. As she said, it’s a testament to how ready he is to be a father. So, she revised their medical record.
Back at the Dixons, Danny tells his mom about his first kiss. And Delilah couldn’t be any more ecstatic for her son. But, as Danny says, there are no labels yet. It just is what it is.
Scarless
Elsewhere, Eddie and Katherine also have a sit down with Theo. They tell him about his aunt’s alcoholism. And at the same time, Eddie also tells his son about his own alcohol problem. Later that night, Theo wonders if his dad’s problem would come back. As Eddie explains, it’s a part of him. But he assures Theo that with him and his mom believing in him, he’d be able to keep overcoming it.
Meanwhile, on the way back home, Gary snaps at a car that doesn’t stop at a stop sign. Pounding on the trunk, he screams at the driver. To his utter shock, a well-dressed man emerges and without a word, points a gun to his head. After a few tense seconds, the man retreats. But, the message was made clear enough.
On the other hand, after that disaster with Gary, Maggie runs to Eric again. Together, the two set off on a jog to cool down their minds. As they return to Eric’s apartment, the topic of conversation goes to their surgery scars. Maggie asks Eric how he deals with his insecurity about it when sleeping with someone. But, apparently, he hasn’t slept with anyone since his fiance died. As the silence settles between them, Maggie starts inching closer. And Eric meets her kiss. But, before it goes a long way Eric pulls away. Embarrassed, Maggie rushes out. In the silence of her wake, Eric sighs. And when he takes off his shirt, Eric reveals the reason he seems to be shying away from the scar topic. He doesn’t have one.
