Mike Myers was probably one of the biggest celebrities when the Austin Powers films came out, but he has since turned his back on mainstream films; making small cameos from time to time. Now Netflix has released a trailer for The Pentaverate, which has Myers back in costume, playing kooky characters.

Deadline describes the series:
Created by Myers and directed by Tim Kirkby, the series asks, “What if a secret society of five men — aka The Pentaverate — has been working to influence world events for the greater good since the Black Plague of 1347?” As the series begins, one unlikely Canadian journalist (Myers) finds himself embroiled in a mission to uncover the truth and just possibly save the world himself.
Myers is said to portray a total of eight roles in the series, and we actually get to see a bunch of them in the trailer. Besides him, the series also includes Keegan-Michael Key, Ken Jeong, Debi Mazar, Richard McCabe, Jennifer Saunders, and Lydia West.
The series does remind me of how silly the Austin Powers films are, but with the way that comedy has evolved over the years, I wonder if The Pentaverate will still be able to get laughs out of people without the series feeling outdated.
Either way, I love Myers, and I think that it’s great to see him on screens again. It is curious that this trailer should come out after the release of the Puss in Boots 2 trailer. Are these hints to some kind of Shrek comeback?
Catch The Pentaverate when it premieres on Netflix on May 5.
