Mickey7: Robert Pattinson to Lead Bong Joon-ho's Next Film

It’s been a few years since the release of Parasite, and a lot of people are wondering what director Bong Joon-ho has up his sleeve. What’s interesting is, he could be teaming up with one Dark Knight who has recently worked with Christopher Nolan—and we’re not talking about Christian Bale.

According to Deadline, Robert Pattinson is currently in talks to star in Bong’s upcoming film Mickey7. The film is actually based on a book from Edward Ashton, and it hasn’t even been published yet. The synopsis reads:

Mickey7, is an Expendable: a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous—even suicidal—the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal…and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.

If anything, it’s possible that Bong’s film will deviate from the source material, but the story does seem to have a theme that resonates with Bong’s previous works like Parasite and Snowpiercer. Bong’s films usually focus on the grunts/expendables of society, and I think the movie can feature Pattinson’s Mickey7, a literally expendable person, trying to break the chains of the status quo and rise above it.

Or we can get something tragic; if you’ve seen Bong’s films, you’ll know that they end in some kind of tragedy one way or another.

No release date has been set for Mickey7, but you can catch Pattinson in The Batman which hits theaters on March 4.
