Mia Goth Teases Third X Movie—MaXXXine

Ti West’s X franchise has gone a very interesting direction. After the first film X, then the prequel Pearl, we’re now set to go back to the 1980s and continue the story of Mia Goth’s Maxine—or should I say MaXXXine. The movie is currently in production, and Goth takes time to tease her return as the wannabe actress.

Talking to GamesRadar, Goth teases, “What’s been fun about these movies has been how little people know. So I’m going to try, as best I can, to hold on to as much mystery as possible… It’s the best script out of the three. It’s such a fun film, such a wild ride. I think fans of the previous two movies are going to love the little nuggets that are scattered through the script that reference the previous movies.”

While the first movie was kind of a meditation on the horrors of aging and wanting to be beautiful, the sequel Pearl had been a study on narcissism with the character of Pearl who was still played by Goth. The synopsis for MaXXXine reads:

Follows Maxine, who was the only survivor of the bloody incidents of X, as she continues her journey towards fame to be an actress in 1980s Los Angeles.

We don’t really know where the movie could go, but it could probably take the character of Maxine and turn her into the main villain. With Pearl being a dark mirror of Maxine’s future in the X movie, it’s possible that MaXXXine could follow Maxine on the similar trajectory of Pearl, who had tried their best to shoot for stardom, but fell into insanity when she couldn’t make the cut.

Then again, that’s just my predictions off the top of my head, I’d honestly prefer a movie I never saw coming. As of now, MaXXXine still has no release date.
