This week may have everyone’s eyes focused on The Batman, but for the fans of more lighthearted films, you can watch out for Disney Pixar’s Turning Red. The movie is set to hit Disney+ next week, and we have a new clip that shows us Mei Lee’s first metamorphosis.
Watch this:
The scene is essentially Mei Lee’s first transformation, and we also get to watch how her parents interact to it. While it’s only a minute of the film, you get to see so many great Pixar touches from Mei Lee jiggling her panda belly to her father sneaking food while Ming is worried.
After Disney made Luca go straight to streaming, fans thought that Turning Red would get a theatrical release. Too bad the Omicron cases were rising, and Disney had to make the decision to have TR go straight to streaming. If it’s any consolation, Encanto didn’t really get the buzz it has now until it hit Disney+, so maybe it’s a good thing that everyone can get in on Turning Red at the same time.
Disney and Pixar’s “Turning Red” introduces Mei Lee (voice of Rosalie Chiang), a confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. Her protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming (voice of Sandra Oh), is never far from her daughter—an unfortunate reality for the teenager. And as if changes to her interests, relationships and body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS), she “poofs” into a giant red panda!
Catch Turning Red when it hits Disney+ on March 11.
