Megamind and Despicable Me both came out in 2010, but only one franchise managed to become a global brand (hint: it’s the one with minions in it). Either way, there is still a lot of love for Megamind, and after rumors have come out about a sequel, it looks like the defender of Metrocity is going to be making a comeback.
As per @kidscreen (via @hollywoodhandle), a Megamind series is expected to premiere in 2024. Here’s the alleged poster:

Take note, there hasn’t been an official announcement from Dreamworks, but with properties like Kung Fu Panda getting several spinoff series, why wouldn’t Megamind get his time in the spotlight?
Here’s the synopsis for Megamind:
Though he is the most-brilliant supervillain the world has known, Megamind (Will Ferrell) is the least-successful. Thwarted time and again by heroic Metro Man (Brad Pitt), Megamind is more surprised than anyone when he actually manages to defeat his longtime enemy. But without Metro Man, Megamind has no purpose in life, so he creates a new opponent, who quickly decides that it’s more fun to be a bad guy than a hero.
If Shrek was supposed to be a sarcastic jab at Disney fairy tales, Megamind was a dig at the superhero genre, with the film allegedly asking, “What would happen if Lex Luthor beat Superman?” The result was a very charming film, with a lot of humor and heart. I guess it didn’t manage to fly at the box office because a lot of people thought was too similar to Despicable Me—and they couldn’t be more wrong.
I mean, this scene alone manages to top anything we’ve gotten in the MCU after 20+ films:
The Megamind series hasn’t been officially announced, but we’ll wait and see what we get in 2024.
