Fans got burned with Death Note and Cowboy Bebop, but Netflix is going to keep going at the anime adaptations until something eventually sticks. One of their upcoming projects is the live-action adaptation of the hit anime One Piece, and we have a first poster as well as teaser image of the main cast.

Since Netflix has been notorious with their anime adaptations, a lot of fans are remaining cautiously optimistic about the show. Hopefully this is the start of a steady stream of reveals, and this should get everyone hyped for the series premiere when it finally happens.
I’ll admit, adapting anime into live-action has always been kind of a Herculean task. Cowboy Bebop tried its best to copy the anime frame-by-frame, but the series was still terribly received. With the cartoon-y nature of One Piece, we should expect even more wackiness when it comes to live-action, but I am optimistic that they have the right cast for the job.
I’m just here worried if the show will be able to catch up to all the spectacle from the anime. I mean, Luffy’s powers alone demand some top notch VFX. Did Netflix dish out that Last of Us budget for some stellar effects, or are we going to have a lot of bottle episodes and characters barely showing off their powers?
We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
The live-action One Piece premieres on Netflix sometime in 2023.
