The Sparrows have Landed in Date Announce for Umbrella Academy Season 3

The last season of Umbrella Academy came out in 2020, and after a year without the Hargreeves, Netflix is ready to bring them back for the third season this year. Just in, we have a release date announcement for the series, and it continues to tease the alternate timeline Sparrow Academy.

In Season 3, after putting a stop to 1963’s doomsday, the Umbrella Academy return home to the present, convinced they prevented the initial apocalypse and fixed this godforsaken timeline once and for all. But after a brief moment of celebration, they realize things aren’t exactly (okay, not at all) how they left them. Enter the Sparrow Academy.

 Smart, stylish, and about as warm as a sea of icebergs, the Sparrows immediately clash with the Umbrellas in a violent face-off that turns out to be the least of everyone’s concerns. Navigating challenges, losses, and surprises of their own – and dealing with an unidentified destructive entity wreaking havoc in the Universe (something they may have caused) — now all they need to do is convince Dad’s new and possibly better family to help them put right what their arrival made wrong. Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?

If anything, the series manages to up the stakes frequently with every passing season. Though the first season had the Hargreeves dealing with the threat of Vanya’s unchecked powers, Season 2 went full period piece and had them trying to escape the past. Now the Hargreeves are thrust into an alternate timeline where they have to cooperate with a different version of the Umbrella Academy.

 With the Hargreeves being defined by their horrible upbringing by Sir Reginald, it’s going to be interesting to see how this alternate version of the family was raised. If anything, it looks like they actually like their father, but in turn, they seem to be as icy as the first Sir Hargreeves we meet.  

The Umbrella Academy returns to Netflix on June 22.
