Meet Kamala Khan Actress Iman Vellani in New Ms. Marvel Featurette

June is almost here, and that means we’re about to meet one of the new Marvels of The Marvels. Just in, Disney+ has dropped a new featurette that introduces us to Iman Vellani, the face of Kamala Khan.

While we know that the Kamala in the comics is a huge Avengers fan, this live-action version of Kamala is confirmed to be a superfan of Captain Marvel. We don’t really know specifically where her powers come from, but it’s been confirmed that she’s essentially a Green Lantern with the ability to make light projections.

Originally Kamala had the power to shapeshift in the comics, and she got these abilities from being an Inhuman. We don’t know why Marvel Studios decided to retcon her story, but I guess the cosmic origin of her powers can give her a closer connection to Captain Marvel as compared to Kamala just being a huge fan of hers.

With Moon Knight on the more serious side of things, I’m hoping that shows like Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk would be a breath of fresh air for the franchise. Sure Marvel films are always expected to come with quips, but I think Ms. Marvel has the potential to embrace comedy more—plus give us a unique look into Kamala’s Pakistani-American lifestyle.

Though they did change up her powers, I’m hoping that Marvel Studios still keeps Kamala’s catchphrase, “Embiggen!” Don’t let me down, Feige.

Ms. Marvel debuts on Disney+ on June 8.
