Meet Bliss, The Newest Member of 'The PowerPuff Girls'

After news broke out this month that a new member will be introduced into the superhero trio “The PowerPuff Girls,” the first look at Townsville’s newest hero has been revealed. Joining Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup is Bliss (or Blisstina)—the girls’ long-lost sister.
From 1998 to 2005, it’s always been the three girls who fought against famous villains like The Ganggreen Gang, Fuzzy Lumpkins, HIM, and the notorious Mojo Jojo among others. “The Powerpuff Girls” then went on to get a reboot in 2016, with slight changes in the animation and in their looks.

While the reboot didn’t fare well with critics, fans and audiences embraced the new season, which was then renewed for a second run on Cartoon Network. And with this second season comes a new member of the superhero group during the movie event “The PowerPuff Girls: Power of Four.” This is a five-part story that focuses on Bliss, the new PowerPuff Girl.

‘The PowerPuff Girls’: Who is Bliss?

Voiced by South African singer Toya Delazy, Bliss (or Blisstina) has the same features as the three PowerPuff Girls. But just like them, she has her own unique features as well. She has shiny blue hair, a purple dress, a headband with a pink heart, and a noticeably mature figure. But aside from these features, Bliss is also the first Black PowerPuff Girl.

Bliss was initially thought to be Bubbles’ imaginary friend, but it turns out that she is, in fact, their long-lost older sister. Just like the three of them, Bliss was created by Professor Utonium using an earlier version of the “ingredients chosen to create the perfect little girls.” And since she is some kind of a prototype, Bliss is emotionally unstable and can easily lose control of her powers. After an explosion happens because of her tantrum, the Professor thought that she was gone forever. Bliss was also best friends with Mojo Jojo back when he was Professor Utonium’s lab assistant. Bliss’ dangerous traits made her an indispensable part of the PowerPuff Girls’ family, but she still left town in the end.
While Bliss is an official member of the team, many have tried to be a part of “The PowerPuff Girls.” There’s this other PowerPuff Girl creation named Bunny that the girls themselves tried to create, but she didn’t live for long. Then there’s Bullet, who Bubbles tried to revive by dropping Chemical X to a wounded squirrel. But perhaps the most well-known PowerPuff Girl wannabe is the villainous Princess Morbucks who tried and failed so many times just for her to be a part of the team.
