The Maze Runner: The Death Cure Will Give An Appropriate Farewell To Characters

The Gladers are closing in on the bad guys. A year from now, the epic conclusion to James Dashner’s “The Maze Runner” trilogy novel series will hit cinemas and bring an end to the epidemic that has been ravaging the world and to the World in Catastrophe: Killzone Department (W.I.C.K.D).

Thomas (Dylan O’Brien), along with the rest of the surviving members of the Gladers will finally see an end to all suffering and dispute. “The Maze Runner: The Death Cure” is the last and “perfect storybook ending” to the series—at least according to Teresea (Kaya Scodelario).

Kaya Scodelario On “Great Goodbye” To The Maze Runner Characters

In an interview with ScreenRant, Scodelario revealed a few details about the upcoming final installment for “The Maze Runner” series. There is a massive war to come and a world that needs to be saved that goes before the Gladers’ path. But according to Scodelario, they would also have to deal with strained personal relationships; including Thomas’ feelings and especially after what Teresa did in “The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.” For now, it seems as if there could be a lot of storylines and subplots included in a single film.

Scodelario, however, said that they were able to wrap filming neatly and give a proper send-off for all the characters.

“Yeah. We just wrapped filming. And I think we are really saying a great goodbye to these characters and we are tying up all the loose ends. This is a rescue mission movie. They want to catch Minho. They are breaking into W.C.K.D and we are kind of trying to understand the decision Teresa did in the last movie. That she is not just a betrayer,” she said.

In “The Scorch Trials,” Teresa seemingly betrayed the Gladers by tipping off W.I.C.K.D. on their location, causing them to be hunted down and Minho (Ki Hong Lee) being captured.

The Death Cure Production Delays

Last year, production on “The Maze Runner: The Death Cure” was delayed due to O’Brien being involved in an accident which cost him some minor injuries. Although these were not fatal, the actor needed some time to heal, leading the production schedule to a pause. They resumed shooting last March in Cape Town, South Africa and, according to Scodelario, recently just wrapped.

“The Maze Runner: The Death Cure” hits theaters on February 9, 2018.
