Austin Butler may have received all the praise for his work in the Elvis biopic, but the King of Rock and Roll is making another comeback in an animated action series.
Check out the first trailer for Agent Elvis which stars Matthew McConoaughey as the fictionalized version of Elvis Presley working for the government as a secret agent. Check it:
Here’s the official description:
This ten episode, Netflix adult animation series from Sony Pictures Animation is an irreverent action comedy starring Matthew McConaughey as Elvis Presley and follows Elvis as he lives a double-life as a secret agent.
The series was created by Priscilla Presley and John Eddie, with animation coming from the Vancouver-based Titmouse—the same studio that delivered Kill Team Kill in Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots; it’s funny though, because though the studio had worked on Netflix’s LDR, I though they were the same team that delivered Zima Blue—because the art-style for Agent Elvis is strikingly similar.
While the premise of Elvis working as a secret agent does sound pretty crazy, there is a letter from Elvis written to president Richard Nixon with Elvis pitching the president to turn him into a secret agent. Watch Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows) read the letter here:
Agent Elvis looks like a good bit of silly fun, and while I expect this Elvis to kick ass and take names, I’d love it if we got some kind of reference to his career as a Rock and Roll legend.
Agent Elvis premieres on Netflix this March.
