Marvel’s What If…?: Meet New Mohawk Hero Kahhori

Though The Watcher’s arc seems to have been completed in the first season of Marvel’s What If…? it looks like he’s going to be introducing us to even more alternate worlds—and new characters.

Just in, Marvel.com has officially revealed Kahhori, a new Mohawk hero who received her powers from the Tesseract in pre-colonial America. Check her out:

The character’s description reads:

What If…? asks what would happen if the Tesseract fell to Earth and landed in the sovereign Haudenosaunee Confederacy before the colonization of America.

The Tesseract takes on a new life and a new mythology, transforming a lake into a gateway to the stars and leading Kahhori, a young Mohawk woman, on a quest to discover her power.

We don’t know exactly what Kahhori’s story entails, but I am suspecting that her story could involve Wakanda or Talokan, both ancient civilizations that somehow found a way to access a precious resource.

Kahhori has no revealed voice actress yet, but Prey star Amber Midthunder has shown interest online via Twitter:

What’s interesting about Kahhori’s story is that it will be told entirely in the Mohawk language, and great care has been taken to make sure that the series depicts the culture in an authentic light. Mohawk language expert Doug George explains:

“It tells a remarkable story from a Native-Mohawk perspective which is truly unique and historical, and will give the viewers a new, challenging and entertaining perspective on this land’s first peoples. The story is dramatic, the characters fully realized, and the action sequences are breathtaking… The episode is exceptional in another sense–it is done with the complete cooperation of the Mohawk people from dialogue to adornment.”

No release date has been announced for the second season of What If…? but you can catch Season 1 now streaming on Disney+.
