'Marvel's Cloak and Dagger' Season 2, Episode 5 'Alignment Chart' Recap: Justice

Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger live in a world where corrupt government officials, drug traders, and human trafficking flourishes. As New Orleans’ only hope, they try their best to eradicate such things. In their quest for justice and safety, they encounter the most heartless. Often, one can never be so sure of who to trust. After a trip to the Darkforce Dimension, our heroes return to make things right.

On Thursday night’s episode 0f Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger, Detective Connors’ (J.D. Evermore) guilty conscience makes him surrender to Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph). Meanwhile, Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) tracks down the city’s drug running operation. As the events unfold, Tandy realizes a deception too late while Detective Brigid O’Reilly (Emma Lahana) reflects on herself.

Still A Good Shot

Sure, Brigid was still unable to shoot right, but her cop instincts and training are still within grasp. Initially turning down Tyrone asking for her help, Brigid heads to the other apartment. Her aggressive counterpart still lingered in the Darkforce Dimension, so the place was still empty. As she looked around, she finds everything done to how she would have done things. What breaks her to her core was seeing Fuchs’ obituary. Brigid was an emotional wreck, but she manages to find the strength to help Tyrone. As Tyrone worked on the lead that Connors gave him, Brigid caused a distraction and made sure that no one notices them. Brigid plays a vital role in the plan, and it would not have worked as smoothly as it did, despite its seemingly unfruitful end, were it not for her.

Connors out in the open presents a considerable risk to Tyrone and his family. With that said, he does not expect Connors to give up as quickly as he did. Tyrone knew better than to trust Connors, but he takes him up on his offer. Connors has an uncle connected to the higher-ups of the government, State Senator Asa Henderson (John P. Fertitta). This connection enables him to evade prison for killing Tyrone’s brother, Billy. This time around, however, Connors wanted to come clean and face his wrongs. All Tyrone had to do now is follow Connors’ lead. Meanwhile, Connors stayed behind, kept under close guard by Otis Johnson (Miles Mussenden) and the Wild Red Hawks of the 9th Ward.

Connors plan involved catching his uncle off-guard. Tyrone snuck into a spa that Henderson frequented, stealing his keys to where he kept Connors’ files. Henderson kept them hidden in a clubhouse cellar. Thanks to Brigid’s diversion, the current occupants exited the clubhouse, and the security cameras are now offline. Tyrone reaches the cellar and finds the distinctive bottle, but it is empty. In a fit of rage, Tyrone almost kills Connors, thinking that he fooled him. However, once Tyrone sees Connors’ fears, he believes Connors. With that, Tyrone takes Connors to Adina Johnson (Gloria Reuben) to make their case against him reliable.

While Tyrone and Brigid worked on putting Billy’s killer behind bars, Tandy continued the pursuit of taking down the drug and sex traffickers. Andre Deschaine (Brooklyn Mclinn) could not allow an interview between Tandy and the victimized girls since they are in no shape to talk about their experiences. However, Andre knew someone who could: Lia Dewan (Dilshad Vadsaria).

To establish common ground between her and Lia, Tandy has Tyrone pretend to be her abusive boyfriend and that she needed closure. Disappointed, Tyrone walks away from her the moment he figured out what was happening. Tandy sets up their meeting with Lia to see so that it would be convincing, and Tyrone’s walkout works. Tandy has Lia open up to her about her ex, Eric (Ilan Muallem), who ran the drugs across town.

Having all the info she needed, Tandy decides to hit the drug runners’ hideout on her own. Four men, including Eric, attacked Tandy while she was inside. It seemed as if the men gained the upper hand when Eric used pepper spray on Tandy, but Tandy uses her powers to blind them. One by one, Tandy took them out, ending with Eric. Eric insisted that he only did the drug running part, suggesting that a more prominent gang employs them.

Outside, Lia met Tandy. Concerned over her injured eye, Lia asks her what happened. Tandy, in turn, recounts what happened, and encourages Lia to continue standing up to abusers and taking their power away from them. However, an ambulance suddenly arrives out of nowhere as Lia uses a taser on Tandy. An underlying story about a farmer and a viper previewed throughout the entire episode. These scenes turn out to be Tandy’s visions as she was strapped to a stretcher in the back of an ambulance, overdosed with heroin.

‘Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger’ Season 2, Episode 5 ‘Alignment Chart’ Final Verdict

Connors’ unexpected surrender dramatically changes his character, as his escape, as well as his actions before surrendering to Tyrone, seemed like he was about to start another conflict. Also, Brigid’s vulnerable side must be going through an incredible amount of pain, since even her closest allies compare her to her aggressive, almost crazy counterpart. Hopefully, in the next episodes, the trio comes up with a way to bring both Brigids back together. Lia’s real persona was as unexpected as Connors’ surrender. In their world, it is never easy to trust someone, and it looks like Tandy is about to pay the price for what she just did.
