'Marvel's Cloak and Dagger' Season 2, Episode 3 'Shadow Selves' Recap: Hopeless

Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger make their return an eventful one. Crime and Chaos still ran rampant in New Orleans. Because of this, our heroes find it hard not to use their powers for good. With various new tricks up their sleeve, the trio sets out to find someone odd. As if all negative energies of one became embodied in one person, an old face with a new personality brings about her brand of justice.

On Thursday night’s episode of Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger, Brigid O’Reilly (Emma Lahana), Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt), and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) follow after Brigid’s aggressive twin. Before anything else, the trio lets Mina Hess (Ally Maki) check on Brigid. Days after her survival, Aggressive Brigid first tries to exact revenge but ultimately becomes the harbinger of justice—- without due process.

Pushing her trauma from the Roxxon Leak incident aside, Mina continues her academic work on the side effects on the chemical that Roxxon extracted. When a power surge happens in her laboratory, she makes a breakthrough. The rat she experimented on suddenly divided into two and one killed the other. Mina’s further studies reveal that the aggressive one almost always kills the docile one. So when Brigid, Tandy, and Tyrone went to her to have Brigid examined, Mina looks in disbelief. Aggressive Brigid is out there with the same face and the same memories as her, carrying out punishments in her behalf.

Aggressive Brigid relentlessly worked on her motives. At some point, she tries to kill Brigid, but the mention of Connors makes her change her mind. Instead, Aggressive Brigid decides to find and assassinate Connors herself. However, the lead becomes a dead end when she finally reaches Connors’ former partner. Her search for Connors also lead to her meeting Father Delgado (Jaime Zevallos), and somehow, the two relate to each other since they both lost faith in their careers.

As Connors became nowhere to find, Aggressive Brigid decides to kill those who deserve to die. When faced with many posters of missing girls, Aggressive Brigid gets to work as she aims to bring them home and take down the criminal network. Her investigation led to the gang leaders’ summit, later killing all of those who attended. Now, she is after the gang that trafficks the girls across the country, with or without Tandy and Tyrone’s help.

Having the same skills and memories as her aggressive counterpart, Brigid takes Tandy and Tyrone to where she thought the other Brigid would be. It turns out that she is right when they find her belongings in an apartment where Brigid and Fuchs (Lane Miller) used to hang out. Everything in the room looked exactly how she would fix it, and the methods that Aggressive Brigid use are the same with what Brigid would use if she were in prime condition. If they waited any further, their chance of catching Aggressive Brigid became slimmer by the minute.

The Missing Girls

The trio knew that Aggressive Brigid would be coming after the ones responsible for abducting girls. They manage to find a handful of them right after Aggressive Brigid heads for the gang house. However, they had no idea where this gang house was, so Tandy tries to use her power on one of the girls. Unfortunately, she sees nothing. The girl is hopeless. When Tyrone tries his power, however, the girl’s consciousness led him straight to the gang house.

Hiding behind a car, Tandy and Tyrone plot their rescue. After doing a little recon, Tyrone tells Tandy what he saw. In turn, Tandy creates a diversion to cover for Tyrone and the Girls’ escape. Tyrone, on the other hand, teleports the girls to Brigid who just finished sending off the previously rescued girls. Finally, Tyrone saves them all, but a gang member finds Tandy. To her surprise, Aggressive Brigid stole a garbage truck and drove it straight through two gang members.

Inside, Tyrone finds a boy, mesmerized by his powers. The gang members started to argue with each other when Aggressive Brigid comes in, guns blazing. Tyrone uses the same ability he used when he took out Connors; keeping the boy safe from bullets and taking Aggressive Brigid into wherever his ability took her. Aggressive Brigid finds herself in a gas station, facing the fridge where she found Fuchs’ body. True enough, Fuchs was there, asking her if she wanted pancakes.

‘Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger’ Season 2, Episode 3 ‘Shadow Selves’ Final Verdict

Finally, the fates of a few essential characters took the spotlight. Father Delgado gave up his priesthood and relapsed into being an alcoholic, while Mina continued her research work with no issues, despite being infected by the Roxxon substance. Digging deep into Brigid’s character helped gave a better understanding of her role in the series. Much like in the comics, she is Tandy and Tyrone’s protector. This time, however, Tandy and Tyrone protect her from herself.

Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger continues Thursday, April 18th with ‘Rabit Hold’ at 8/9c on Freeform.
