‘Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger’ Season 1, Episode 5 ‘Princeton Offense’ Recap: Dig Deep [SPOILERS]

After their big fight at the end of the previous episode, the protagonists continue with their separate lives. This episode of Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger further develops the protagonists’ abilities. Their different lives remain as a separator, but their powers continually bring them together. As the episode progresses, the protagonists come closer and closer to having justice for their losses.

In this week’s episode of Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger, Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) tracks down the businessmen who are responsible for her father’s demise. Meanwhile, Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) prepares for his big game as Detective Brigid O’Reilly (Emma Lahana) gathers information about Connors (J.D. Evermore).

Undercover

Brigid O’Reilly finishes having sex with Officer Fuchs (Lane Miller). Moments later, the police station recalls her to deal with Tyrone. Tyrone asks her if they could talk privately, but because of the case he used to cover up for his presence, they had to stay there. Eventually, Tyrone tells Detective O’Reilly about Connors and his involvement in his brother’s death.

Officer Fuchs visits Detective O’Reilly at the police station. Seeing how intent she was at looking at her computer screen, he asks her what she is doing. She tells him about the case she was working on, the one about Tyrone’s brother’s death that was covered up as part of the drug trade. Talking with Officer Fuchs, Detective O’Reilly finds out that Connors was part of an undercover cop unit.

Detective O’Reilly decides to find a way to talk to Connors personally, so she lures Connors in by letting him catch her using cocaine. Their encounter leads to him gaining interest in her and in her abilities, which is what she wanted.

Attention

The school wishes their basketball team good luck as they walked their parade. Tandy unexpectedly shows up at Tyrone’s school. After they exchange apologies, Tandy asks him to help her research. Tyrone is surprised when Tandy amasses a good deal of information that could help her bring justice for her father. They leave the computer room, and the team starts to assemble in the hallway. Tyrone meets Evita Fusilier (Noelle Renée Bercy) right before they march into the school grounds.

Tyrone comes home and talks to his mother, Adina Johnson (Gloria Reuben) about his brother, Billy. She tells Tyrone that Billy would have been proud of him if he won the finals. As he places the photo of Billy and his friends back on the wall, he teleports to Duane Porter (Dalon J. Holland), one of his brother’s friend’s workshop. They reminisce the time when Billy was still with them, and while most of his friends and Billy himself would have rooted for their previous school, Duane wishes him luck for the game.

The next day, Evita meets Tyrone at the priest’s office. Tyrone gives her his jacket as a sign that he was into her. The game starts shortly after. Tyrone notices that the referees were unfair to their opponent. At halftime, Tyrone rests on a bench when he suddenly teleports to a Gala. Tyrone meets Tandy there. Despite his intrusion, Tandy helps him go back to where he was by doing what she did to control her powers: risking her life. She pushes him down to a fountain at the ground floor of the building.

Tyrone finds himself sitting on the bench, wet. He dries himself up and follows after his teammates just as halftime ends. Tyrone successfully dodges each of his opponents. While he did, he saw their biggest fears. Becuase of this, Tyrone purposely misses the goal to let the other team win. He smiles to himself as the opposing team celebrates their victory.

When Tyrone comes home, he finds Evita sitting on his bed. At first, he thought that she was there to give him back his jacket. However, Evita counters him and says that she pays attention to his actions. She understood why Tyrone missed the shot. After this, Evita kisses Tyrone. The following morning, Evita left through the same way she entered: Tyrone’s unlocked bedroom window. Still, they knew that they had a good time.

Tyrone puts his blanket back on when he suddenly teleports to Duane’s workshop. He finds out that Duane is working with Connors in the drug trade as he listened to their argument. No matter how Duane made it clear that they were not partners, he still works for the enemy.

Corporate Scum

Tandy reorganizes her father’s salvaged documents. With Tyrone’s help, she found leads that would help her find out who was responsible for her father’s downfall. While she does a little digging, she comes up with a plan to get her into a gala night where all of her targets were in one place. Tandy successfully gets herself a means of passage into the gala.

As the evening progresses, Tandy tracks every single one of her targets. When she finds them, she uses her abilities to find out what their hopes were. In all of her visions, there is one man who kept recurring. Suddenly, Tyrone appears in front of him. However, his intrusion proved to be helpful when Tyrone gives him a vital piece of information. The man she is now after would be Peter Scarborough (Wayne Péré), the same man who took everything away from her family.

Tandy parks her car in front of Peter Scarborough’s house. After this, she rings the doorbell and asks if she could use his phone since her tire was flat. As Peter opens the door, he listens to Tandy’s request. Peter counters her request, offering to fix her tire for her instead. After engaging in small talk, Tandy touches Peter’s neck. In her vision, she sees Peter taking cash out of dead bodies. As one of them tried to kill him, but Peter drowns him. Tandy picks up the drowned man’s hat. His name was Ivan Hess.

Back at the church, Tandy looks at the blueprints of the Roxxon building that caused the explosion. She suddenly teleports to a recording studio. A woman is videotaping for a Roxxon advertisement. This woman was Mina Hess (Ally Maki), Ivan’s daughter, and the same woman Tandy met at the gala.
